Deescalate violence in the Western regions of Cameroon

We the undersigned, on behalf of supporters, partners, friends and citizens of Cameroon, urge our officials in the U.S. Department of State to strengthen their efforts in de-escalating the Anglophone crisis and make further effort to build a lasting peace in Cameroon.
Many of us in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area have a rich history of exchange with the people of Cameroon, including the Franciscan Common Venture, the La Crosse Friends of Cameroon, Rotary International and the Sister City relationship between La Crosse and Kumbo.
We are deeply disturbed by the worsening social conditions and unprecedented violence experienced in the past three years in the Northwest and Southwest regions with minimal response by the international community. We have for the past two years called for immediate action by the U.S. government to intervene as the world is witness to brutal killings, torture, and innumerable human rights abuses of Cameroon citizens.
While we are heartened by the recent the visit of Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Tibor Nagy to Cameroon, cuts in U.S. military aid, Ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin’s diplomatic efforts, and the sanctioning of twenty (20) military personnel, civilian actors, and government ministers in Cameroon, we further call for our State Department to increase efforts to de-escalated the violence in the Western regions of Cameroon and facilitate mediated dialog between all stakeholders for lasting peace.
