Certified Nursing Assistant's are the backbone of the healthcare field. We work side by side with people for a range of 8-16 hours a day and provide 24 hour care as well. We work to assist activities of daily living, helping feed, dress, bathe, walk, and change. We are there for every want and need, we are the faces that our residents are most familiar and comfortable with, we check all vitals, rotate every 2 hours, change every 2 hours, 10-15 residents a day for one CNA to manage all because we are over worked and underpaid for the work that we do. CNA’s are very understaffed and some of this issue could be fixed with taking care of the healthcare field. We have 30 minute breaks that are most of the time cut short or we are eating and waiting for a light to go off that we have to stop eating and go give care, sometimes we don’t even get breaks. We are trained, certified, and have lives in our hands that depend on us to help them and be there for them, yet fast food and grocery stores make more than we do. Not taking away from either fields I have worked fast food but It is time for a change. CNA’S deserve better.
