This petition is requesting the CARES act to be expanded to include veterans who cannot utilize the Gi BIll (what pays for veterans schooling and housing when attending school if you don’t know) due to courses being cut as a result of Covid-19. In order to receive full benefits for the Gi Bill, veterans must be attending for full time classes which is 12 credits (6 each 8 week semesters). Due to Covid-19 this has become difficult for veteran students to fulfill, as not every course is being offered online. Normally veterans could offset the loss of Gi BIll income by also working a summer job which many do, however due to the current crisis and expansion of stay at home orders, there is an extreme lack of job opportunities which can supplement this loss of income. Veterans finding themselves in this situation need to be covered under the CARES act so they can collect unemployment to offset the lack of Gi BIll income.
