Customer satisfaction surveys: we've all gotten them after a phone call to support. A little questioneer at the end of a phone call to rate your experience.

It's a great way to help figure out what your customers want from support and to improve the customer experience.

The problem is, the surveys aren't about the company, but about the individual employee they spoke with, and how the customer feels about that employee specifically.

Employees can follow rules set by their employer perfectly, but if the customer remains dissatisfied for any reason and they rate the survey poorly, and the employee is considered at fault.

In addition, not all customers receive the survey, and if they do, they aren't required to take it or even answer honestly, but the employee is still marked at fault by the employer, even if they do everything in their power to fix the situation within their job description.

I petition therefore, that we disallow companies from using customer satisfaction surveys as a metric for wages and continued employment.
