Keep our families stable.

Keep our families stable.
We are DONE talking…It’s time for action. We must call, email and visit our federal, state and local elected officials. ✊
Our families MUST demand that our federal government hold our state and local officials accountable for our housing crisis. We MUST urge them to audit ANY and ALL organizations that received rental assistance and find out how they spent our tax dollars. We must demand our federal government require housing authorities to do more to protect the families on their programs. They must be held accountable for passing inspections for inhabitable and unsafe dwellings. In addition, they must be able to prove they’re spending our resources to provide incentives to recruitlandlords that participate in the housing program.
We MUST address the homeless in our country before it gets any more out of hand. Many families in our community are homeless or they’re on the verge of becoming homeless. Multiple families have received non renewals without anywhere to go except a hotel, shelter, car or the streets. These families are unable to find a place because everyone is requiring them to make 3x the rent, no evictions, no criminal history, credit score of 600 or above and much more. The families with housing choice vouchers are being put out because the owners have increased the rent and their voucher payment doesn’t match the market rate. Many families have lost their vouchers due to their inability to find housing within a certain time frame which I believe is 120 days. We would like to help these families to stop renting and purchase a home. However, the bidding war for homes is outrageous right now.
A few solution to this problem would be to require owners to have good cause to evict, require local officials to create a County land banks so they can Renovate and sell and/or rent unoccupied hotels and delinquent and tax lien properties to low income families. Require the courts to Expunge evictions from court records after the case has either been dismissed/settled or after 2 yrs for a first offense. Implement a federal law that prohibits owners from denying vouchers. (Atlanta passed a ordinance in 2020) Implement and enforce a law that requires property owners to maintain their properties free of mold, rodents and leaks.
