Audrey Kielpinski started this petition to State Senator Jim Stamas and

There are 80,000 kids just in Michigan that are homeless in a given year. In the nation, there are 2.5 million homeless children and 15,565 are under the age of four. These drastic numbers are not decreasing, but significantly increasing. These children have no way to help themselves, especially when they are that young. These children are developing slower and are going to have increasingly more problems as they grow older. As a community, district, and state, we should all come together to help these children and make a positive change in their lives. Put yourself in their shoes, what would you want? Its time to make a change and become positive role models for these young children.
There are ways to fix the brokenness in this society. Local housing trust funds are ways that we can raise money to put back into houses, shelters, and overall a safe place for these children to live. To make sure money is going to be collected for this cause, there will be a 1% sales tax increase on food and beverages in Michigan. These will raise money enough money to help with housing, food, and companionship.
Think about your city. Whom do you know that has been directly affected by homelessness? Have you witnessed child homelessness? Do you want to make a change? CHANGE STARTS HERE!
