Give college students the option to sign a shorter lease for the school year, not 12 month

0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!

Most college students opt to live in apartments. Apartments that are mostly geared towards students should give students an option to sign a shorter lease. Now, almost every student apartment enforces the signing of a 12 month lease. If the student doesn't wish to stay at school over the summer months, this makes the student have to either find a stranger to sub-lease for the summer (risky and hard to find), or lose (the little money they have) by continuing to pay rent.

Lots of college students also desire to go study abroad, but this is complicated by the fact that they are locked into a lease for a time they won't be in the country. Once again, this is complicated because the student has to either pay rent twice (at home and abroad) or struggle to find a student who only wants to sub-lease one semester.

Apartment complexes geared towards students should offer alternatives to the 12- month lease, such as leasing per semester or leasing for the school year only.
