Create affordable housing specifically for disabled individuals.
There should be more housing options for disabled individuals and/or their family. There are a lot of housing communities for senior citizens, college students and even the homeless, but not for the disabled. Or what about the women who are given housing, medical, electric check and food benefits just for having a child? While I’m trying to find an affordable place on my own and only qualify for $20 a month in food benefits. That doesn’t make sense. There could be a set up like they do in student housing by sharing a common area, but having your own room and splitting the bills. Having amenities like a gym to stay fit and out the hospital or a clubhouse to have support meetings. Or have patio homes for those that want to live alone or that have a family.
To have housing would mean independence and reassurance of maintaining a more healthy state of mind and stability. It would lessen the chances of ending up in a nursing home or rehab center because of no where to go. We are still productive members of society, have jobs and want more inclusion in the community and life. Wouldn’t you want the same for yourself or loved one?
