In the state of Nebraska there is currently no ratio for Patient to Nursing/CNA care. In order for our family members and loved ones to properly be cared for and recieve the love and support they need at this time of their lives, there needs to be some sort of ratio. If there is not a required number for places to meet then you're creating situations where people are working with up to 42 patients by themselves. All of our health care workers are working themselves past breaking points on the DAILY and not a single one would give it up because they love their patients that much. You're creating situations where workers can not take breaks for the length of their shift whether it's a 4 hour or a 16 hour shift. Not even a bathroom break or a second to stay properly hydrated or fed. You're not only hurting all your healthcare workers by this, but the patients as well. They cant get the one on one they deserve. Some of them have family that never visit, and all they need is some one to talk to, or brush their hair a little longer, or show pictures too. But we cant because theres no ratio in place so we are forced to work by ourselves and take care of everyone within a time limit and that unintentionally neglects the needs of our loved ones, and neglects the needs of our workers as well. I've seen countless situations of health care workers breaking down or crying because they know they cant do this alone. But there is no one else there to ask for help from. There needs to be a ratio.
