My name is David Langley. I got hurt in 2009 when I worked at Office Depot in Dover DE. I am on workers compensation. The insurance carrier for Office Depot is Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. in Maryland. I was lifting heavy furniture and tore labrums in both of my shoulders. I also hurt my neck but they lost the intake recording of me stating the injury. They denied my neck. I had six surgeries; three on each shoulder. All surgeries were trying to stabilize my shoulders that dislocate and they all failed. The last surgery done to my right shoulder was a total replacement and that surgery caused me to have a pinched nerve in my brachial plexus in the shoulder. I can barely use my arm and it dies sometimes and I cannot even use it at all. It also still dislocates even after the replacement. My left shoulder also still dislocates and I was just told I have no cartilage left and I need to have a replacement of my left shoulder. It has been a nightmare dealing with Sedgwick. I have started this petition to try to change how injured workers are treated by Sedgwick and other insurance companies. I am on narcotics. I take Oxycodone and Lyrica. I am happy to say that I weaned myself off of Morphine twice daily, Amitriptyline at bedtime and cut down from taking 5 to 6 Oxycodone to only twice daily without my doctor's help. I am very proud about that. Back to the issue at hand, I have been out of work for over 10 years now. Since I moved to California the state of California said I am totally disabled due to my bilateral shoulder condition. Sedgwick is responsible to pay me weekly and to pay for my medical bills for the rest of my life. Over a 10 year span I have had trouble getting my medications filled monthly. This wouldn't be a problem if they weren't narcotics. There have been occasions that my medications haven't been authorized to be filled by Sedgwick for over a week. This is happening right now. Today is 06/03/19 and I have been waiting over a week to get my medications filled. When this happens it causes you to go through withdrawal. This doesn't help the opioid epidemic that we are having. I know some other injured workers that then turn to the streets for heroin, fentanyl, or whatever they can get their hands on. I praise the Lord he gives me strength not to turn to the streets when this happens. I also have an incredible support system with my wife and daughter. When my medications aren't filled it gets my wife and daughter very upset to see me go through withdrawal. I have a new adjuster at Sedgwick and every time a new one is assigned they start playing games with authorizations for medications and doctor's. They also take forever to authorize reasonable request from my doctor to see another doctor for my condition. It took them over a year to approve me seeing an orthopedic doctor for my shoulder. People on workers compensation should not have to go through these problems with insurance companies. It is very cruel when Sedgwick doesn't approve my medications. No one on workers compensation should be treated this way by any insurance company. As I previously stated this doesn't help the opioid crisis this country is facing.

People on workers compensation have been treated unfairly for far too long and it needs to stop. I want to make a change so people who are on workers comp are treated fairly, medications are filled on time, and authorizations for doctors that are needed are done in a timely manner. With your help this can be done. I am asking everyone to please sign this petition so changes can be made to how insurance companies treat injured workers. Please forward this petition to your family and friends so they also can sign. Thank you so much for helping to make a change. I highly appreciate it. God bless you all.
