My roommate is a woodland firefighter and she, like every other firefighter, deserves full compensation for the important work she does!

The reasons for this systems are linked to firefighting from over a hundred years ago. Wildland firefighting historically was thought of as a rare event, that didn't need surcharge numbers of personnel. Today wildland firefighting has evolved into a year round issue, rather than the few months of fire season that was the norm 20 years ago. We are still trying to run firefighting as emergency rather than an ongoing work load. We manage fires as a one might manage a kickball team, relying how might be available at any given moment from another position. With little thought to how it would affect the workforce or mission as a whole. We have become dependent on resources working absurd hours, in poor conditions, with nearly no ability to get any proper rest and expect them to do it with a day or 2 of time off a month for months on end. Its time that we staff and pay resources a living wage that doesn't require this continuous emergency mindset. A 2 week assignment should be followed by significant paid admin leave as well as 2 weeks of project work that is based at home unit. a 3/5ths rule would ensure that resources are not abused by back to back assignments 2 weeks on assignment followed by a week of paid admin leave followed by two weeks of project work. This system would staff the system properly and give time for rest and family connections to be maintained. There are so many additional improvements that need to be made. I lived this life for over 30 years. I have long term issues that have resulted from it.

Yeah grade scale 3 thru 5 is not enough. Look at other department budget not including fires. La fire county $1.1 Billion, Calfire $2.4 Billion (state), United State Forest Service $250 Million (Nation) we can do better and protect Forest technician ( Wildland Firefighter and Hotshot handcrews)

“forestry technicians”, like my brother, deserve better for all they do.

I have known and care about many wildland firefighters, and I know how hard they work and how much stress they are under. The demand for firefighters is only increasing each year, and they deserve so much more. Give them the pay, benefits, job title, and respect they deserve!

As a mental health worker, it is important to advocate for change that will help to reduce deaths by suicide, and negative mental health symptoms.

My son has 8 seasons in and I see the harsh reality of this profession take a little more from him each season. STOP THE CRAP! They deserve so much more.
