Provide federal financial assistance to renters affected by COVID-19
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
During the coronavirus pandemic, millions of American tenants are struggling to pay rent. Even before COVID-19, nearly 10 MILLION low-income renter households spent more than half of their income on rent. Inability to pay rent leads to eviction, which often results in homelessness - without federal financial assistance for those struggling with rent costs during COVID-19, we will see a profound spike in evictions and homelessness during and after this pandemic.
This should horrify us. If we don't take action, countless Americans will be forced to the streets because of circumstances that are entirely out of their control. As Youth Fighting Homelessness, a youth-led organization combatting homelessness across America, we urge you to sign this petition in support of the Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Bill, which was introduced in May by U.S. Representatives Maxine Walters (D-CA), Denny Heck (D-WA), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH). The bill would allocate 100 billion dollars of federal funds to assist struggling tenants. In particular, the bill would benefit low-income communities of color impacted by the pandemic. Sign this petition to express your support for this vital piece of legislation and urge Congress to include it in any coronavirus response package.
