Humans love to procrastinate. We like to not address problems until they present themselves as urgent; however, it would be much wiser to address them while they are smaller and seemingly less urgent, and prevent them from growing in size and become more difficult to surmount.

On possible solution to this problem is to give NASA a larger percentage of the federal budget. This would help strengthen our space program as well as have indirect benefits to climate change. This will likely decrease the time it will take for humans to get to Mars which would be a huge milestone for humanity and inspire an explosions of innovations, much like the explosion that followed getting to the moon. Many of these innovations centered around making Martian survival easier may also be applied to the earth in order to combat climate change.

In addition to all of this, having a stronger space program has many other benefits such as becoming an interplanetary species or encountering life somewhere other than on planet earth.
