In 1999, the United Nations Security Council established in resolutions 1279 and 1291 the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).

The MONUSCO was first created to observe and report on the peacekeeping proceedings. Since then, it has had its own share of controversies such as the “Gold-4-guns”. As of 2017, more than $8 billions have been spent to fund the peacekeeping force.

Since then, the Democratic Republic of Congo has and is still suffering innumerable human and capital losses. The peace process has since fallen through, but they still maintain a presence without a main objectif.

A few days ago, during an unfortunate accident, a UN truck was overturned. During the rescue, locals discovered bags full of cobalt. This is a discovery that proves what many locals and government officials have been accusing them of.

Since it is obvious that this peacekeeping force has failed to accomplish its goal and has taken part in robbing the Democratic Republic of Congo from its natural ressources, we are petitioning that all MONUSCO forces be removed from the Congolese territory.

The removal of the MONUSCO will be more beneficial for the country to bring real peace throughout the territory.
