Murtaja Qureiris, a Saudi Arabia young boy, was arrested when he was just thirteen, after the uprising in 2011, for leading a group of kids during the Arab Spring protests at the age of ten, demanding rights for Saudi Arabia's Shia minority. Since demonstrations against the Government are formally forbidden in the country, he's now, at the age of 18, facing the death penalty.

The Governement accuses him of being a member of the terrorist organisation. In fact, Qureiris's brother was killed by Saudi forces. He's one of the many young Saudi protesters facing execution. On April 23th 2019, Saudi Arabia annouced it has executed 37 people and the majority where Shia, among which 3 where killed for protest related crimes commited as minors. Moreover, the prosecutor is his case is not only calling for the death penalty, but for his body to be crucified or dismembered.

It's illegal for Saudi citizens to speak to foreing journalists, that's why we should try to give them a voice, and dennouce what is clearly an attempt not only against democracy, but also against human and most importantly children's rights.

More recently, sources confirm he has been spared for execution. However, this new must not be naively comprehended as a good thing as we've also known that a Saudi court sentenced Qureiris to 12 years in prison, which includes  time served and the last 4 years on probation. That means he could be released by 2022.
