STOP TRIMMING RASTAFARI NOW!

It has become apparent over the past months that in Tanzania and Jamaica,in particular, the trimming (cutting of the dreadlocks) of members of the Rastafari faith and livity is taking place. Also, that this barbaric act is becoming more and more prevalent globally.

The dreadlocks are sacrosanct and is a symbolic manifestation of an individuals covenant with the Most High Jah Rastafari, Haile Selassie I to trod the path of Rastafari faith and livity. 

The trimming of Crispin Ochanda (June 2021), Robert Mchana (July 2021) in Tanzania; and Nzinga Candice King in Jamaica (July 2021)  by the police are violations of their fundamental human rights.

Moreover, the trimming of these individuals is in violation of Articles 2,  5,  6  and 7 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).

Therefore, We call upon the governments of Tanzania, Jamaica, and all governments to ensure that the trimming of Rastafari - when they have been arrested by police, or are in hospitals, and other state institutions - ceases immediately. We demand that these nefarious and insidious acts stop forthwith. We proclaim: " STOP TRIMMING RASTAFARI NOW!"
