We denounce the criminal repression towards the people of Iraq. We recognize that there are 16 years of systematic oppression by a political model that is not sustainable with the aspirations of noble people of Iraq. The people of Iraq have been able to wake up after 16 years of corrupt political and social system that has precarious infrastructure, health and education systems. The immense mobilizations in Iraq and Lebanon demonstrate that this system is unsustainable and incompatible with life, the popular clamor in Iraq: Enough is enough!

More than a couple of months of protests have passed, and most of the young people express the discontent of an entire country that asks for basic needs to be covered. The government has met the peaceful demonstrators of unarmed Iraqi citizens with horrifying acts of oppression. More than 300 people were killed, and thousands are wounded since October 1st, 2019. Therefore, the demonstrators have raised the bar of their requests to resignation of Adil Abdulmahdi government and a radical change of the political system from a parliamentary system to a presidential system. This government has proven immense incompetency and inability to protect the lives of Iraqi citizens during the protests in Iraq. We demand the international community to take a stand and interfere immediately to stop the bloodshed in Iraq and punish those in charge of killing and wounding people during the protests.

More than 16 years of sectarianism-based political system have left problems such as: unequal employment opportunities due to the influence of the political parties on all the country's institutions that only political parties supporters and their families can get jobs and prestigious positions in the government. Iraq has the fifth largest oil reserves in the world, yet 40% of Iraqis are below the poverty line.

As university students in Iraq are uprising against the dark future awaiting them after graduation, we as international students and alumni in the United States and around the world stand by our fellow Iraqi colleagues and demand the Iraqi government to step down and fulfill their people requests. We demand the international community to stop the massacres that are happening in Iraq right now.

Oppressing the freedom of the press is one of the most pitiful ways the government is using to smother the screams of freedom in Iraq, and we are attentive. Cutting off the internet over Iraq has deeply impacted each and everyone of us, it is affecting the mental well-being of Iraqi students, and Iraqis around the world who have families can not communicate with in Iraq due to cutting off the internet. We are extremely worried about our families in Iraq and demand the international community to force the government to bring back the internet to Iraq immediately.

We listen to the demands of an entire town that has manifested itself without violence, and the criminal response of the government. This is nothing less than dictatorial behavior, and it is not a "democratic Iraq" behavior.

We speak in solidarity with Iraqi youth, women, students, elders and all protesters who have been violently attacked with brutal repression by the political parties militias, we know that they receive orders from those who defend the interests of the current government. Hundreds are killed by live bullets and tear gas grenades that are being directed directly towards people's heads and chests, thousands are missing, detained, and figures that are increasing minute by minute.

We denounce any infiltration in Iraq to dilute and destabilize the peaceful and dignified movements and the true desire of the people for a dignified life, with health and education accessible to all.

We call on international organizations to pay attention to the human rights violations that are occurring in Iraq.

"The people united will never be defeated"
