Mehr Hakim started this petition to United Nations

In 1947, Kashmir was promised a referendum to allow its citizens to decide whether they wanted autonomy, Indian rule, or Pakistani rule. This referendum, though the promise itself is undisputed and its record exists with the UN, was never given. On August 4 2019, India dispatched tens of thousands of troops, indefinitely closed phone and internet lines-putting the state of Jammu and Kashmir behind an iron curtain, exactly what the Soviet Union did during the cold war to territories it controlled. The Indian government instituted an indefinite curfew (making it illegal for more than four people at a time to gather, closing shops, roads, etc). The next day, India scrapped Article 370 by presidential order, revoking Kashmir's special status. This takes away any existing autonomy, allows non-Kashmiris to own land in Kashmir (the first step to removing occupied territories from the map). Secondly, Kashmir was made into a Union Territory- taking away all autonomy and representation. Officially illegally taking hold of Kashmir.

Kashmiris are not safe under Indian Rule. In June of 2018, the UN released a report on the human rights violations in Kashmir. It is known that the Indian government mistreats Kashmiris and only wants the land, not the people. Save their lives. Sign this petition. Give Kashmiris their referendum, their lives, their freedom.
