The Uighur Crisis in China is in violation of serious international criminal laws such as Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide. The International Criminal Court (ICC) faces limitations in conducting an investigation in the matter since China is not a member state of the Rome Statute or the ICC. A possible alternative is for the United Nations Security Council to intervene and refer this case to the ICC, but this is not currently possible since China has the right to Veto any possible resolutions as a permanent UN member. This has previously caused many serious international crimes to go unpunished and it is a major obstruction in the democratic body of the UN. An example of this is the War in Syria that cannot be investigated because Russia has consistently used their power of Veto to oppose any international intervention due to political interests. This CANNOT go on. This international organization was implemented as a resource to punish and prevent such atrocities from occurring, but political implications are preventing justice from being served.
