The government of Mauritius amended Article 46 of the country’s ICT Act under the Judicial and Legal Provisions Act.

This allows them to muzzle the media and ban criticism of government officials.

In this day and age, it is worrisome that a country like Mauritius has fallen into the category of rogue nations, banning critics and empowering Ministers to order the police to arrest any individuals they want.

The amendment is intended to protect the ruling political elite. It does not protect the people from abuse of power by the same political elite.

We at WorldFuture urges global leaders to use their powers to urge the Mauritian government to revoke the amendment. The amendment is against the Mauritian Constitution.

The Constitution guarantees the right to express freely, the freedom of the media and the protection of rights in the country.
