Why should you care about the current civil disobedience in Hong Kong?
1. This is not just another city in China.
2. Because Hong Kong is one of the leading financial centers in Asia, if Hong Kong continues to shut down, this will significant influence the stock market in various countries.
3. The outcome of this protest may change the future economic policies in China which also has an effect on global economy.
4. For international human rights - basic freedom of speech and to vote.
5. This global issue needs international awareness.
6. This is clearly a human rights violation.
Since September 22, 2014, Hong Kong pro-democracy students have been going on strike and protest for universal suffrage. Unfortunately, this demonstration ended with a bloody tragedy.
With a great reputation in economic and foreign policies, tourism, healthcare, public assistance, etc., which attract millions of tourists, foreign workers, and/or immigrants to the city, Hong Kong has always been ranked as one of the safest cities in Asia. On September 28, 2014, since the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the British government to China(1997), Hong Kong citizens face political violence from China for the first time in history.
Today, I am expressing my deepest sorrow for thousands of unarmed teens and students who were injured during this civil rights movement - a protest for universal suffrage. Their actions were enthusiastic, fearless, heroic, and commendable.
The protestors were unarmed and did not participate in any usage of force to fight back despite law enforcement officers were unreasonably using pepper spray to disperse the crowd. This protest was lawfully requested with legitimate permits and none of our protestors broke into riot.
Beijing, Hong Kong Police Force, the Chief Executive, and the Hong Kong Security Bureau repetitively use excessive force such as tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper spray, and batons to brutally batter our indefensible citizens. Police officers also refused to release students when they courteously requested permission to leave to relieve themselves.
For freedom of speech, human rights, and to protect our children, I RESPECTFULLY URGE YOU TO HELP US AND SIGN THIS PETITION TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST UNARMED STUDENTS.
We believe the recent violent attacks on unarmed civilians were a political repression and a human rights violation. Several students were also unlawfully arrested and detained. Therefore, we respectfully ask the United Nations Security Council to open an investigation to investigate the following individuals, including but not limited to:
Andy Tsang, Commissioner of Police
Tung-kwok Lai, Secretary for Security
Ka Chiu Lee, Deputy Secretary for Security
Yuet-ngor Lam Cheng, Chief Secretary for Administration
Chun-ying Leung, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
In addition, we ask the UN Security Council to refer the investigation to International Criminal Court, if deemed necessary.

"Cast your whole vote, not a strip of paper merely, but your whole influence... If a thousand men were not to pay their tax bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible." - Henry David Thoreau
