People Should Be Able To Claim Land In Space

In 1967, the Outer Space Treaty was signed by over a hundred countries, with the United States included. This treaty has barred countries from claiming to the moon, and other planetary objects. People should be able to claim land in outer space, because of there being New resources, booming Space Tourism, and because of overpopulation.

One reason why people should be able to claim the land is Extra-Terrestrial Mining. People who claim land in space could directly harvest resources, or indirectly harvest resources, by selling the land to a mining company. As stated in the Newspaper “Miami Herald” in the article titled “Can You Own Land in Outer Space?” by Teresa Anjou, “Why would a company want to go to the trouble of claiming the Moon, Mars, or even an asteroid? Firstly, there may be valuable minerals in these locations.” These said “Valuable minerals” can be something that we have a shortage of on Earth, or something new, that may Revolutionize our world as we know it, plunging us into the Future. According to arxiv.org, this mining would be a great thing, for you could get more water from asteroids. This Extra water would be added to earth’s supply, therefore increasing the amount of water on this planet, giving it to those who need it. That is why the minerals we may find in space are valuable.

Another reason why people should be able to claim land in space is because of the Space Tourism Department. People claiming land in outer space could allow them to make money by Tourism. As mentioned in the Newspaper “Miami Herald” in the article titled “Can You Own Land in Outer Space?” by Teresa Anjou, “Why would a company want to go to the trouble of claiming the Moon, Mars, or even an asteroid?... Secondly, as the cost of spaceflight comes down, space tourism could be a moneymaking venture.”. This Shows that Space Tourism could be a whole new business. This business would also help the 172 million people who are currently unemployed in the world, either directly by offering them a job, or indirectly, by making other leave their jobs to go into the space tourism department, thus allowing them to seize the other people’s previous person’s positions. This is why Space Tourism is such a big thing that could change the world.

Finally, people should be able to claim land in space, because of overpopulation. When People buy land in space, they could build a house, and then go live in it. This would help the 1.6 billion people in the world who are homeless or live in poor quality houses, by making more houses available. Also, because of the people who moved to space, the price of houses will go down, because nobody is buying them. At the rate at which humans are causing damage to the Earth, we may not be able to save it. As Kim Stanley Robinson made clear “Empty half the Earth of its humans. It's the only way to save the planet.”. He is a Science Fiction writer, but not all science fiction ideas are fake. For example, ancient civilizations thought that the idea of mechanical humanoids was crazy, but here we are today, with people building robots for competitions, and even toys! Also, if we remove half of the human population, global This is why people should be able to own land in outer space.

Some people think that this could lead to unnecessary conflicts or wars. To that, I give a solution; for example, Mars could be owned by the whole human race, and anyone could live anywhere. All humans are selfish, and if there were any other treaties, countries would go to war to control all of the planetary locations.

All in all, People should be able to claim land in space, because of there being New resources, booming Space Tourism, and because of overpopulation. So think about the dying Earth, for half of the human population going to space is one of the only solutions. Do you want to live on Mars?
