On February 18, 2007 a powerful bombing aboard Samjhauta rail that was started to strengthen relations between India and Pakistan had left 68 people dead. The incident was promptly blamed on Pakistan-based Islamic extremists by the Indian government. However, it was later found that this was a handiwork of the Hindu fanatics. Although one of the main conspirators had admitted his involvement in the crime before the courts, the current Indian government led by right wing Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janata Party is trying to scrap the case by giving back door Amnesty to the culprits and rather shifting the blame on Pakistan. Under these circumstances, there is an immediate need for an international investigation to ensure that the justice is done. Any attempt to cover up the complicity of the Hindu Right in the crime must be stopped by the international bodies. We therefore demand that the UN should intervene without further delay so that the truth prevails and the Hindu organizations indulging in terrorism with impunity are exposed and punished.
