Subject:  Request to ban NEET for all types of college admissions for the state of Tamil Nadu for now and in the future.

Respected Sir,

This is in reference to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu (TN).  Being responsible citizens of India hailing from the state of Tamil Nadu, we would like to express our concerns and views regarding this subject.  The imposition of NEET resulted in the death of our sister Anitha (an M.B.B.S aspirant) who had scored extra-ordinary marks in her plus two Tamil Nadu State Board public examination (1176/1200) and still deprived admission into medical colleges.

Tamil Nadu has been the pioneer in healthcare system and has the best primary health center network amongst all the states in India.  The state of Tamil Nadu has the best of infrastructure for medical education and has produced some of the best doctors and surgeons in the world. We have achieved all of these by following socially inclusive education policies which has given the best opportunities for the poor and deprived classes to achieve their educational aspirations.  Tamil Nadu's medical colleges are being funded on its own and is being run very efficiently.  The service minded doctors graduating from these colleges serve the villages and rural areas across Tamil Nadu which has made Tamil Nadu stand in the top two positions in low infant mortality, low pregnant women mortality, highest number of doctors 146 per lakh people.

Studies all over the world have proved that a single entrance exam method of admissions has proved to be a disastrous for students hailing from the financially challenged sections and has produced money making coaching centers. In this context, the central government's decision to impose NEET will also reverse all the social justice which Tamil Nadu has achieved since independence in 1947.
NEET favours students studying CBSE curriculum who comprise less than 4% of Tamil Nadu students.  This is seen as hijacking state's right and autonomy in education.  NEET is against the idea of India which is essentially a multicultural, multi-linguistic and multiethnic and is a way of cultural imperialism.
In light of the above issue, we request His Excellency Indian ambassador to forward our following requests to the Indian Government on behalf of lakhs of Tamils living in California, USA.

1.      The central government should move education from concurrent list to the state list.
2.      Tamil Nadu should be exempted from NEET and other similar entrance or eligibility exams for medical and various other areas of educational admissions for now and forever.

Thank You,
Sincerely,
Manoj
