Why this petition matters

No one deserves to have their human rights violated. Every individual around the world is entitled to basic human rights. This includes being allowed to have a quality of life, equality, dignity and freedom from discrimination. However, in India, the government continues to violate the rights of the farmers who are peacefully protesting to have their voices heard. Since September 2020, Indian farmers have been peacefully protesting on the borders that enter the country’s capital, Delhi. The purpose behind their protest is to have the government repeal the three new farm bills that they have announced as this will implicate the farming industry and the farmers’ earnings tremendously.

As the protests are still ongoing and continue to grow all over India, the government is doing everything within their abilities to put an end to this. The government is using cruel inhumane measures against the farmers in hopes that they will return back home and others will follow along with them. Although the government's efforts to stop the protests have been unsuccessful, it is important to acknowledge how these human rights violations cannot be ignored. For instance, some of these human rights violations include cutting off access to the internet, use of security barricades, limiting food and water resources, excessive use of force, having villagers purposely attack the protesting sites, etc.

These violations cannot be dismissed any longer. It is crucial to raise awareness and bring attention to this issue in order to hold the Indian government accountable for their negative actions against innocent lives. Individuals from all over the world must get involved to help save the Indian farmers. In hopes of putting an end to this issue, please sign and share this petition to help gain the attention of organizations such as the United Nations and Human Rights Watch who are able to step in and advocate for the human rights of these farmers.
