Admit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea into the UN Human Rights Council

The United States recently announced its departure from the 47-state Human Rights Council, leaving a vacancy for the remainder of the 2017-2019 term.

That the United States was ever allowed into the Council in the first place is an attack to all peace-loving peoples throughout the world considering that the United States has a history of overthrowing democratically elected governments, has the highest rate of imprisonment in the world, has failed to address the issue of American police officers murdering members of oppressed nations with impunity, and continues to lock immigrant children who have been forcibly separated from their families up in detention centers.

At the same time, the United States, through organizations like the Atlas Network, is determined to slander the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, one of the few countries that remains dedicated to fighting imperialism and the violation of human rights imperialism necessitates. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has struggled against countless forms of hostility, ranging from threat of war to sanctions designed to starve the Korean people, and, though far from perfect, has demonstrated its resilience in spite of apparently insurmountable obstacles; the People's Korea has fought for decades against transgressions against the human rights of its citizens.

It is thus we find it fitting for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to fill the vacancy in the Council caused by the departure of the United States.
