Beaches are an integral part of those who live on the coast. Right from protection to residents living beside the magnificent oceans, acting as a buffer against the high speed winds and waves of rough seas to being an important factor of economic growth. Beaches are just so very important. The inviting blue waters, the sandy beaches and the tall swaying palm trees are sources of recreation, tourism, employment and other coastal development. Creation of green zones around these beaches, increased presence of flora act as bio-filters that help reduce environmental pollution in the surface runoff, conserves shallow groundwater and prevents soil erosion. Trees provide shade and shelter and help moderate weather extremes such as the hot and blazing sun or strong winds. Trees and shrubs also improve air quality by taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Evidence has shown that increased vegetation provides vital protection in cases of a Tsunami. Specific vegetation like mangroves protects and improves the water quality by filtering the pollutants in it, plants also absorb water and stabilize the soil during heavy rainfall, hence reducing the chances of coastal flooding. They filter out nutrients and pesticides that could otherwise reach a lake or stream and cause algal blooms or excessive plant growth. Roots increase soil porosity, allowing water to infiltrate rather than run off. Studies show that the more trees and landscaping a business district has,the more business will flow in. A tree-lined street helps reduce UV-B exposure by about 50 percent, thus providing protection to the community and prevents them from harmful effects of UV radiation, such as skin cancer, which happens to be one of the most prevalent forms of cancer.

In conclusion, this small step with your minimal required effort of signing, can help persuade the government to create and maintain green zones around our welcoming beaches.
