Since Nov 4, 2020, the northern province of Ethiopia Tigray has been under complete communication blackout while the region is experiencing an active military attack. As the conflict continues to aggravate and the region becoming a dangerous warzone resulting in devastating humanitarian crises with an unknown number of casualties and more than 45 thousand Tigrians fleeing their homes to neighboring country Sudan, the communication blackout has been hindering the process of verifying claims made on social media and other outlets. The war in itself is causing a tremendous amount of tribulation to civilians, but we also recognize the power of misinformation and its deleterious impact in exacerbating the conflict that could cause additional catastrophic humanitarian crises in the region and out of the region. Therefore, restoring communication has to be a priority and is critical to alleviating further inflammation of the conflict.
