Why this petition matters

Started by Kimberly Parris

Since the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was passed over 50 years ago, people of color, black people in particular, have been mistreated, abused, and murdered via the use of excessive police force across the country. This mistreatment must end. Earlier today, The NAACP called on the United Nations to "step up and classify the mistreatment of black people in the US by the police as a human rights violation, aggressively call out the US government in the process, and impose sanctions if necessary". This petition directly supports that cause.

We urge UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the head of United Nations Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, to #Standup4HumanRights and #Standup4BlackLives. Declare the mistreatment of black people in the United States by the police a human rights violation.
