Dave Tubio started this petition to United Nation's environment programme and

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change set a deadline for cliamte action in 2018. It was said that we only have a decade left to battle greenhouse gas emissions, and restrain worst effects of CC from taking effect. When 1.5 degree Celsius is reached, major phenomena begin to happen such as rapid sea level rise, extreme heat and weather that can compel ecosystem to collapse. It can force some less adaptive species into extinction. Scientists even reiterated that some of these are foreseen to be irreversible.

This issue is serious, but it is definitely not apocalyptic. It is not "the end of the world" nor "the end of the entire human species." It is a problem for centuries that requires mass action to effectively bend what is forecasted to have irrevocable and unmanageable effects. The goal here is to slow the rate of increase of the global temperature by 2030 and to be 'net 0' by 2050. The general environmental thrust is to restrain from overusing coal and other non-replaceable energy, instead use renewable energy in the worst GHGs contributor--Industrial sector.

The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions presented steps in the reduction of GHG emissions. For starters, actions should be taken by all members of the society, that includes the people and the government in lowering carbon footprint.

The petition demand the following practices:

  1. Use renewable energy to produce electricity without emitting GHGs.
  2. Encourage installment of Nuclear Power Plant around the globe.
  3. Capture CO2 emissions from factories and powerplants through Carbon Capture and Storage Technology.
  4. Install appliances that are energy efficient such as those with better insulation.
  5. For transportation: choose cars with improved fuel efficiency; blend biofuels with gasoline; and, use hydrogen-fueled cells.
  6. For agriculture: neglect the use of heavy chemicals such as petroleum-based fertilizers, and observe aerobic containment to manage manure.

We may not be able to escape the threat of climatic change, but we can definitely start helping our environment by supporting this petition.
