Justice for Fakhara Karim and victims of domestic abuse

Cricket player Mustafa Bashir was recently convicted for beating his wife, strangling her and pouring bleach down her throat. All three of which could have easily resulted in her death yet he was not charged with attempted murder, and was given a suspended sentence so will not even serve a day in prison. The judge's reasoning for the light sentence was that his wife was intelligent and had a strong support network so was not a vulnerable person and that it could adversely affect the perpetrator's career.
We need to send a strong message to perpetrators of domestic violence that if you choose to abuse and nearly kill your partner, you will be punished to the fullest extent of the law and face the consequences for the crime you have committed. In this case the opposite has happened and it appears to blame the victim for being 'not vulnerable enough' to deserve justice.
Please urge MPs and the justice system to stop failing to stand up for victims of domestic violence!
