We believe that it’s not your doctor’s fault that they don’t have the time or expertise to provide you with specific guidance on exercise or nutrition. We believe that it’s not a patient’s fault that they're exposed to conflicting health and fitness information weekly. We also believe that it’s not a trainer’s fault for leaving the fitness industry and taking a stable job with a clear career path. We honestly believe that it’s no one’s fault. It’s everyone’s responsibility to rise to purpose and fix our current healthcare system. We believe in people helping people.
HEALTHEFIT represents hope for an ailing healthcare system and promising profession. Following the business models set forth by other professions including: doctors and physical therapists, we are trying to get the medical fitness professional included as an allied healthcare provider and get medical exercise services covered by health insurance companies. Our mission is bridge the gap between healthcare and fitness while using exercise and nutrition as medicine for the treatment of chronic conditions.
While most physicians understand that most of their patients need to eat healthy and exercise, they simply do not have the training or time to invest into providing specific guidelines for every patient. Furthermore, the liability that may accompany an ill advised referral to an ordinary trainer could lead to higher professional liability insurance premiums should something go wrong.
The need for an evolved fitness professional has lead to the development of the Medical Fitness Provider. Recognized as Clinical Exercise Physiologist (a healthcare professional who is trained to work with patients with chronic diseases where exercise training has been shown to be of therapeutic benefit, including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, and metabolic disorders). These individuals certified through the American College of Sports Medicine, American Council of Exercise, and Medical Exercise Training Institute.
Coverage through health insurance companies will increase physician confidence that medical fitness is a viable prescription option in addition to medical drugs. In addition, healthcare coverage will also create job opportunities for graduating exercise science/physiology majors and current qualified professionals; while providing patients with customized services to cater to their individual chronic condition(s). This new addition to population health management will not only assist individuals in meeting their health goals, but maintain them as well.
Healthcare coverage of medical fitness services will extend American lives while decreasing healthcare spending from employers to insurers.
