I am a former employee (Dec 89- May 92) and daughter of a United retiree (67-2003). After I left United, I became a consistent Premier and above United Frequent Flyer member. I loved the company and the customer service and care for its people philosophy that made me proud to become an employee to begin with. I only left United because I joined the Army.

My father retired due to medical reasons but was properly taken cared for by the company until 2010. I watched the company tear away his benefits. And as a Gold Mileage Plus member, I have witnessed the customer service deteriorate since 2010. The former Continental employees were very unhappy to become United and United employees were unhappy because the Continental operating procedures were being implemented. They were very drastically different from United.

As a customer, one of the things I noticed immediately is I had to pay these high co-pays to use my miles to upgrade. I had purchased a lot of miles with each ticket purchase as permitted because I liked to stand by for upgrades. It was a great and friendly program. You could easily transfer miles to give a gift to someone. But now you can't afford to do it because United charges high fees per mile you want to transfer (even for miles you already paid for).

On the employee side, it used to be an honored title to be retired and the retirees were respected with a higher stand-by category status then the active employees. Instead, Smisek implemented a program in which they subtract a year off your status each year and you remain in the same category with the active employees. I find this operating procedure devaluing the worth of dedicating yourself to be a member of a company with a goal of becoming a retiree. Eventually everyone retires.

It seems that Smisek's destruction strategy is to hope that the current United Employees don't remain with the company and eventually just fill the positions with subcontractor or temps like you see in third-world countries where they don't care about representing the company nor do they care about customer service. I hope this petition leads to restoring United and building back the team it once had before Smisek. Thank you for the opportunity to provide my comments.

I was outsourced from one of the highest yield field stations in the nation. I am to close to retirement to simply quit and find myself having to commute to IAD to work. I am and have been in good standing with UA. I have a wife and three children. It is taking a toll on our lives.

He is responsible for the lower service standards / lower morale of most United employees since taking over from Continental!
As a houstonian, I hope the new Ceo will take a look at the standards employed by continental and consider adopting some of them. Providing better service is an effective way to acquire loyal customers

I believe no one who shamefully slashed all benefits and lies should be given a severance package at all. Fire him without any benefits. Also let the FBI prosecute him!
