Mental Health Days In School

Mental Health Days In School
Why this petition matters
Students and educators deserve the right to take mental health days during the school year. They should not be penalized for this. Our mental health is just as important, if not more important than our physical health. Your mind not only effects your everyday life, but studies shows it effects the way your body’s organs function as well. You never know how much someone is struggling in their personal life. Having mental health days gives students and educators a chance to take a break without the fear of being punished. Having loads of homework and multiple projects due at a time can be very overwhelming for children with ongoing problems at home. Piles of essays and projects to grade can create more anxiety for educators on top of other issues within their community. With the mental health issues that are more common than not these days, people deserve a chance to take a step back, relax and regroup. Student’s grades should not be effected negativelyfor not completing work during their mental health days. Educators should not be required to use their sick days or personal days for their mental health days either. A limited amount of mental health days will also keep from the abuse of these days, but no one should be penalized for focusing on the thing that can hurt us the most, our own minds. We all deserve to take care of ourselves first and we all can agree on that.
