Student-Centered Education for Human Greatness
Why this petition matters
The 4th Sustainable Development Goals which is quality education reflect a global consensus in our young century that education is a human right and a public good that is critical to the health and future of the world. It ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning.
Education is not simply a content delivery system; rather, it is a system designed to help all children reach their full potential and enter society as full and productive citizens. A quality education is one that focuses on the whole child—the social, emotional, mental, physical, and cognitive development of each student regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. It prepares the child for life, not just for testing.
As in Malaysia, some student does not get a quality education because of the exam-oriented system. The syllabus itself failed to provide holistic education. The fact that teachers and students work on limited goals than those proposed by curriculum developers, teacher educators, writers of syllabuses, and textbook authors. It makes students do not learn for knowledge but learn for the exam. The government needs to change the assessment to analyze the student. It includes indicating the student performance through attendance, attitude and self-image. Mainly, the teaching and learning style needs to improvise for a better future.
