In this pandemic, violence against women all over the world has increased. World Health Organization (WHO) states that 1 in 3 women globally experience violence in their lives. They are mostly abused by their intimate partners either physically or sexually which lead them to depression and severe injuries.

The rate of violence is believed to increase in this pandemic due to stress, more time spent with abusers and lack of accessibility towards social support network and critical services. Therefore, proper facility has to be created to reduce the act of violence against women.

For example, more transitional houses should be built to accommodate survivors. Transitional house is a type of temporary but supportive accommodation for women to stay between the period of homelessness and permanent housing. They will be provided with food, counselling, life skills and education to build their confidence in order to live their lives out there. This initiative will encourage more women to step out of their abusive relationships as many of them are financially dependent on their intimate partners. Besides, they will become more independent and wiser which will give them the empowerment to build dignified and better lives for them in the future.

In a nutshell, there is not even a single country that can boldly declare that they have achieved gender equality. Therefore, I hope that the rate of violence against women decreases and more of women’s voices will be heard instead to give them equal rights as men in the future.
