Let every meritorious student who qualifies through NEET be eligible to become a doctor

Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed to the Union Minister of Human Resource Development that NIOS students (students of the National Institute of Open Schooling) should not be allowed to become doctors even if they qualify on merit through the NEET examination.

Differently able children, sports persons, socially or economically disadvantaged persons and even some late schoolers who can not go through class room studies get their chance to build their lives through open schools.

MCI's approach will deny all these individuals an opportunity to build a better future for them.

MCI's outlook is therefore insensitive and narrow minded.

Once NEET is accepted as the "National Eligibility cum Entrance Test" for admission to medical colleges, anyone and everyone who passes the test with competitive scores MUST have a right to admission to the institutes tied to NEET. And that right must be irrespective of which background they come from, what age they are etc. Such attempts of "profiling" are discriminatory and therefore unjust.

There is NO evidence that classroom educated individuals are better prepared for further learning than self learnt, driven individuals.

"As per NEET 2017 figures cited by the NIOS officials, almost 3000 students appeared in the exam and over 800 successfully qualified. The numbers therefore indicate that NIOS students are equally qualified as their peers from regular school boards"... MCI is creating a biased admission criteria that will deny lakhs of aspiring young Indians to build their better tomorrow. by its action, MCI seeks to create barriers to stop the less privileged come at par with the luckier of us.

We must stop MCI from depriving our young generation's aspirations.

Let us join hands to ensure that fair and just processes are maintained in modern India.
