Help 15-year old Noor get her life back
Noor, a 15-year old girl, comes from a poor background and supports herself and her family by cleaning houses in Lahore, Pakistan. Noor has big dreams and hopes to make enough money to become independent and get an education. She even saved up enough money to buy herself a smart phone. Unfortunately, a week ago she was pressured into an arranged marriage to 30-year old man against her will. Noor's life was completely derailed and she was traumatized as her hands and feet were tied while she was gagged on the wedding night. Once her husband realized she was menstruating, he called his father at 2 am to complain and sent her back to her family. On top of that, his family confiscated Noor's smartphone and are refusing to give it back. They are also demanding a divorce after Noor's family pays 100,000 rupees.
Child marriages are not uncommon in the poorer parts of Pakistan, but my family and friends have known Noor for a year and we've seen how hardworking and kind she is. We hope to help Noor get her life back with the following demands:
- The in laws must legally divorce Noor
- They must return her smart phone
- They must return all wedding expenses to Noor's family
Child marriages, like Noor's case, are wrong but common among impoverished and exploited communities in Pakistan. It will take a lot of change to abolish child marriages as a whole, and we hope that by getting justice for Noor child marriages will be completely outlawed in Pakistan. Please help us achieve justice for Noor so that she can live the life that she wants to live.
