As of the 1st May 2019 new and HARSH penalties have come into play affecting heavy vehicle drivers on the descent between Crafers and the bottom of the freeway. Follow link for full information regarding the new penalties:

https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/driving-and-transport/heavy-vehicles/heavy-vehicles-on-the-south-eastern-freeway

For consistent offenders or for those with multiple traffic violations, we are in support for these penalties. However, for FIRST TIME offenders these penalties are unforgiving. No appeals can be made no matter what your circumstances are.

A full loss of licence for 6 months (not including the loss of 6 demerit points and a fine for $1036 - which we feel is still warranted) for a first offence loses livelihoods, jobs, opportunities, causes family friction, mortgage payments, and above all else, the mental health of the “perpetrator” and their families.

Two crashes involving heavy vehicles between 2010-2014 (that’s 2x crashes in the last 9 years) does not warrant such harsh penalties for FIRST TIME offenders with a clean history. Everyone makes mistakes.

Please sign this petition to have these harsh penalties for FIRST TIME offenders reassessed.
