RE: Protect Holy Shrines of Sayyeda Zainab and Sakina/Rukhaiya Bintul Hussain

The holy shrines of Sayyeda Zainab and Sakina/Rukhaiya bintul Hussain are located in Damascus, Syria. These two shrines are amongst some of the very important religious sites of pilgrimage for Shi'a Muslims around the world. The shrines must be protected from terrorists that have threatened to destroy these shrines.

The recent, May 2013, demolition of the shrine of Prophet's companion Hujr bin Adi (ra) was incited by the belief that pilgrimage to and veneration of the Prophet Muhammad and his family & companions is forbidden, as understood by the dominant religious tradition, also known as Wahabbism. This dogmatic following is also responsible for provoking the terrorist attacks in several countries around the world including:
-> September 11, 2001 against the United States
-> UK train bombings in 2005
-> Bombings in Mumbai in 2008
-> Destruction of the al-Askarriyan mosque in Samarra, Iraq
-> Destruction of Jannat-ul-Baqee, in Medina, Saudi Arabia

Al-Baqee (http://www.baqee.org), a coalition committed to religious tolerance and peace, is urging all member of the United Nations to protect all religious and cultural heritage sites especially the ones currently in imminent danger, holy shrines of Sayyeda Zainab and Sakina/Rukhaiya Bintul Hussain in Damascus, Syria.
