Allow Sophomores to live off campus in 2022 at UNCW
Next year, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will be enforcing sophomore students to live on campus in the same dorms as the incoming freshmen and that some freshmen this year are living in. This has not be enforced in previous years at the university. This is a new rule the school is implementing and doesn't even allow for students to live in on campus apartments. This rule is being enforced on the same students who had almost half of their high school experience taken away from them due to COVID-19. There was missed proms, football games, senior day in person, and some of us never were able to go back to school and say goodbye. High school graduating class of 2021, had numerous vital and memorable moments taken away in the blink of an eye due to the pandemic. Many students came to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with excitement for the future opportunities the community would provide. It is hard to then have the realization that something else is just being taken away and is such a big change from years prior. Everyone had their struggles with the global pandemic, loss, pain, mental health problems, and etc. The class of 2025 came into there freshmen year thrilled for this new opportunity with a wonderful school and now some are thinking of transferring. Please don't give the same students who had no control over an overwhelming amount of events caused by COVID-19, no control over their own living arrangements. Thank you.
