Unban Edilson Morales from Microsoft Teams

Unban Edilson Morales from Microsoft Teams
The Issue
School district’s Information Technology department committed an act of wrongdoing onto a student. On April 25, 2024, Edilson Morales, a senior from Phoenix Union Bioscience High School has been banned from the school district’s primary communication system, Microsoft Teams. The entire school district, Phoenix Union High School District, utilizes Microsoft Teams for school faculty and students across multiple schools in the district to communicate for necessities (scheduling appointments with counselors, tutoring, etc). In 2024, the school district prohibited students communicating towards another which has limited students communicating for group projects and other activities. The district’s Information Technology department took this course of action because they were under the assumption that all students were using it for inappropriate reasons and demonstration behavior that is not graciously professional. That was some students though, not all of them. What they should’ve done is prohibit that ability for those students that were sending inappropriate messages instead of everyone. April 25, 2024, Edilson attempted to log into Microsoft Teams to review any updates from his Senior Class for the weekly schedule. After 33 attempts, he couldn’t login. After that, he asked some of his classmates if they were able to login, they were while he couldn’t. He knew his login information since his freshman year. Thus, he arrived towards the conclusion that he is banned from accessing Microsoft Teams. Edilson couldn’t believe what he was witnessing. He thought to himself, “Why is the school district doing this to me, I haven’t graduated yet?” Edilson never abused the forms of communication given to him on Microsoft Teams for inappropriate reasons violating any rules of conduct. Phoenix Union High School cannot continue to commit these wrongdoings and getting away with it.
