Beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, the KO school board banned the use age of cell phones in the buildings. They are allowed in the buildings, but they have to remain shut off in pockets or bags. Now I completely understand no phones in class, that is a given, but the fact that we can't have our phones at LUNCH is just ridiculous. Lunch is a time to destress and the ban of cell phone usage at lunch will have a negative effect on the students. There are times when students need to contact their parents and/or coaches and they are probably unable to go to the office to do so. This year, the school introduced a thing called Eagle Time. If you don't know what that is, it's when students do a set of activities and free time for an hour and a half while other students go to lunch. Since some students, such as myself, have Parkway therefore we don't get Eagle Time. So we at least need our phones to destress at lunchtime. Now I've heard that one of the reasons why we can't have cell phones is because of cyber bullying. Instead of banning cell phones completely, the school should ACTUALLY do something about the bullying. It also occurs outside of a school setting. This past year, there has been the "Devious Lick" challenge. If you don't know what that is, it's when students steal/vandalize something on school property and post it on TikTok. Instead of banning cell phones COMPLETELY, they should suspend the students who did that. If we can't use our phones at lunch, I can't show my friends stuff. And sometimes my friends are unable to join my lunch because it's always full (I'm Parkway so I have to eat third lunch). So if I can't have my phone at lunch, I'll be bored out of my mind. So everyone please sign this petition if you want KO to unban cell phones because it will have a negative effect on the students and the school in general. Thank you for reading and have a good day.
