A Petition to Take Action Against Paul Biya
for Human Rights Abuses in Cameroon
Paul Biya imposed an internet blackout in Northwest and Southwest Cameroon for 94 days (January through April 2017) to punish two regions of Cameroon that are home to 5-million Anglophones. This internet blackout paralyzed business and everyday life in these two regions, causing great economic loss and shutting down communication across Cameroon and outside the country. The blackout also concealed from international view the Biya regime’s police brutality of university students and unarmed civilians.
We, the petitioners, oppose the arbitrary arrest and detention without trial of 100 citizens, including these four, who since January have been imprisoned for three months:
* Lord Justice Ayah Paul Abine
* Dr. Fontem Neba
* Barrister Agbor Balla Nkongho Felix
* Mancho Che Bibixi
Petitioners from around the world demand that Paul Biya release those he has arrested and detained without trial.
We further demand that the United States and other free nations condemn dictatorial regimes in Africa.
Wake Up For Your Rights—an organization that promotes peace and justice in Africa and for people of the African diaspora and their friends—seeks attention of the international community to this crisis in Cameroon. Copies of this petition are being sent to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Pope Francis as well as to leaders of France, the United Kingdom, the USA, Germany, and the African Union.
