Audra Raja started this petition to UMSU

Hi there! We, the student residents at the University of Manitoba are unhappy with the new policy for the new year 2020-2021 made by Student Residences here at the U of M. The policy states that residents 21 and over are only allowed to choose and live in only one residence (Arthur V. Mauro Residence ) out of the four available residences (University College Residence, Mary Speechly Hall, and Pembina Hall Residence). This is very unfair. We understand that Student Residences wishes to make more space for incoming students, however, we feel that there is more than enough spots for both new and old residents to stay in any residence they please. AVM is does not have enough floors and rooms to accommodate most of the residence population who are 21 and over. On top of that, AVM is already expensive on its own without a meal plan. Adding a meal plan would make it much more unaffordable for the many of us here. Those of us who are 21 and over are comfortable in the respective residences we are staying in and do not wish for this to change. If this policy takes effect, our lives will be disrupted as we will now have to start looking for a new place to live, having to move away from University, and so on. Please help us who are 21 and over, sign this petition so we can still be able to affordably live on campus and freely choose any residence to stay in. Thank you for your consideration and time!
