Suspend Phi Kappa Tau Indefinitely For Racial Hate Crime

On April 28, 2017 a noose was found inside of the University of Maryland Phi Kappa Tau chapter house on Fraternity Row, according to University Police. This racially motivated hate crime goes against our university and our nation's values of diversity and inclusion. Black students on this campus have just as much of a right (some would even argue moreso, seeing as though the university was built and funded by enslaved Africans and is currently furnished by majority-black prison laborers) to feeling safe at this university as every other student. Fraternities and sororities have been suspended for hazing, alcohol-related incidents, etc. so this hate crime should, at the very least, cause the frat serious reprecussions. We, the many concerned students of The University of Maryland, College Park who strive and advocate for justice and inclusion, demand that our administrative staff immediately suspend Phi Kappa Tau, indefinitely. Show us that racial hatred will not be tolerated on this campus and that our Black students matter!
