UM should offer help to staff/students who need abortion if Roe overturned
The University of Michigan has failed to give its outward support to half of its student body during this time of uncertainty for women (and many non cisgender people) everywhere. No official statement has been released, nor plans which outline what the University will do if Roe v Wade is overturned and abortion becomes illegal in Michigan.
To be able to focus on our studies and our futures, we must be guaranteed access to critical healthcare - including abortions. Therefore, University of Michigan should provide transport to Illinois or Canada (the closest places with abortion rights protected regardless of Roe v Wade) and financial support for the abortion, to any staff or student (on all three campuses) that needs it if Roe v Wade is overturned. If an influential university such as UM were to do so, not only would it help the 50 thousand+ staff/students on each campus, it may urge other colleges/universities across the country to do the same.
Sign this petition to urge UM to provide transportation and financial support to women who need abortions if Roe v Wade is overturned, and show them we will not stand for their silence on women's rights to their own bodies.
