Urging Ulster University to reconsider the tuition fees for the year of 2019/2020.

This petition has been created as part of my request for Ulster University to reconsider the tuition fees for the academic year of 2019/2020.

Throughout the academic year of 2019/2020 the majority of our face-to-face lectures have been cancelled due to lecturers taking strike action and now the Covid-19 situation.

I am conscious of and support the reasons behind these strikes, but I do not understand why, as students, we are being asked to pay the full annual tuition fees when face-to-face lectures are not available.

During the months of November and December in 2019 strikes took place for eight days, with a further 14 days of strike action from Thursday 20th February 2020. We have missed out on numerous lectures with the only academic support being through the blackboard app.

The university is now closed due to the Covid-19 situation and yet again, as students we are only being provided with academic support through powerpoints and word documents on the blackboard app, with some students having online lectures.

As a student I believe this does not justify the annual tuition fee we pay. Due to us not being provided with the on campus facilities and face-to-face lectures, I would like to question why there is still a necessity for us to pay £4,000+ for this academic year.

I have asked Ulster University to review this situation as it is a concern for many students. Thus considering a reduction in the price of tuition fees for this academic year.

I would appreciate other students in the same situation as myself, to sign this petition so that Ulster University recognises that this is an issue that needs to be addressed.
