Despite the Ukraine war, the Euroleague Basketball League has decided to ban all participating Russian teams from the current competition.

While the regular season is still running, the question came up how to evaluate the already completed games against Russian teams, since some teams already had a first leg and a second leg. This means that some teams still had second legs against Russian teams outstanding. 

 

The league has made the following two proposals:

1) All matches against Russian teams will be cancelled. That improved teams that had defeats against Russian teams and worsened teams with wins. 

2) Keeping the scores and wins/losses as they are. (There was no discussion about the outstanding games of some teams against Russian teams).

3) In the poll, teams were also allowed to abstain their votes.

- ASVEL (France)

- Fenerbahçe Beko (Turkey)

- Barcelona (Spain)

- Milano Olimpia (Italy)

- Panathinaikos Athens (Greece)

- Real Madrid (Spain)

 

3) Abstentions:

- Alba Berlin (Germany)

- Monaco AS (France)

- Red Star Belgrade (Serbia)

- Zenit St. Petersburg (Russia)

- UNICS Kazan (Russia)

Now the first question, why are Russian teams allowed to vote at all?

It is logical that the teams that vote 1) will improve and 2) will worsen. Where is the fairness idea of improving teams and automatically worsening others? Teams that won hard-fought victories against Russian teams will now be worsened and those that lost will be improved? 

Where is the fair play of the Euroleague? 

The months of effort of the club are wiped away here instantly.

 

The teams, which are being stolen the most points by the annulment:

- Monaco AS, 4W 1L, -3 wins

- Real Madrid, 4W 1L, -3 wins

- Fenerbahçe, 3W 0L, - 3 wins

- Barcelona, 3W 1L, -2 Wins

- Milano, 2W 1L, -Wins

The rest of the teams have either an draw or more defeats than wins.

We demand a change of this abominable and unfair voting as well as we wish more transparency by the Euroleague. 

We all love this sport and don't want to suffer anymore because of these senseless and unfair decisions of the Euroleague. 

You are a disgrace for European Basketball and a shame for sportsmanship.
