Yearly MRI testing with contrast following Breast Cancer Diagnoses
Breast cancer can come back in another part of the body months or years after the original diagnosis and treatment. Nearly 30% of people diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will develop metastatic disease.
Secondary breast cancer is always stage 4. This is when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the bones, lungs, liver or brain.
Being told to watch out for the signs of secondary breast cancer isn’t enough because most of the symptoms already exist from taking the medications, for example Tamoxifen/Anastrozole. Doctors/Oncologists tell you constantly that your symptoms are not secondary cancer related until it’s too late!
With yearly MRI’s with contrast the secondary breast cancer can be caught in the early stages to offer a better chance of survival through immediate treatment.
Most patients with metastatic bone disease survive for 6-48 months, because metastasis may not be curable, but early detection and treatment may help people live longer and feel better and even achieve remission for many years.
